After a few months since the beginning of the MBA, it is time to get to know one of my international classmates, Sifan Guo. Sifan was a professional Chinese swimmer and she is currently Senior Designer at Jaeger-LeCoultre, a luxury watch and clock manufacturer based in Switzerland.
Name: Sifan Guo
Nationality: Chinese
Background: I used to be a professional swimmer in the Chinese national team until I went to university. I come from an industrial design background, after university I worked for different consumer electronics brands like Sony and Samsung. It’s now 6 years that I have been working in Switzerland as a Senior Designer for Jaeger-LeCoultre.
Let’s see what she tells us…
Hi Sifan, how is your life in Milan as an international MBA student?
I have to say it is great to come back to university, especially in Milan because I have lived here before for one year, it feels like visiting an old friend!
Has your life changed with the MBA?
A lot. I am learning to balance my time and energy between work and study. I have to say that at times it is really hard as we have a lot of assignments, but that’s also the challenging part!
More than 3 months have passed since the MBA has started.
How has been your experience so far?
It is quite intense, especially taking into consideration that I come from humanistic background. It may be more difficult for me to deal with numbers with respect to some of my classmates who are engineers, but luckily I’m also the one that can in some ways learn the most, since I am kind of a blank page, ready to absorb everything! I enjoy in particular to work in team with my classmates who are professionals from all different industries. We learn a lot from each other’s way of thinking and working.
What do you expect from your MBA at MIP?
I hope I will be able to acquire the knowledge I feel I am missing. I am also looking for inspirational solutions as entrepreneur and a general vision of different industries in the future.
